Our members Ali and Mervi participated in the EFC Corrosion Summer School 2025 in Stavanger, Norway (4–6 September).
The programme combined expert lectures on corrosion monitoring, failure analysis, and maintenance with practical visits, including Ullrigg, the large-scale oil and gas drilling and testing facility. The final day featured a guided tour of the Norwegian Petroleum Museum in Stavanger.
Ali described the summer school as both educational and enjoyable thanks to the mix of lectures, site visits, and networking. He also noted that learning about corrosion monitoring in the oil and gas industry gave him new ideas for applying similar approaches to his own research on boilers.
Mervi found the failure cases presented especially interesting. The Alexander Kielland disaster was mentioned in the lectures, and a rusty piece of the platform was seen in the Petroleum Museum.
Both want to thank the organisers, lecturers, the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC), and Young EFC for supporting this excellent event.
